Kim Scott is one of the leading authorities on workplace management and culture as well as the the author of best selling books Radical Candor and Just Work. Kim is also the co-founder of two organizations that aim to create more equitable workplace and rid the world of bad bosses. Prior to leading these organizations, writing and consulting, Kim held leadership positions as Apple and Google.
Here is a top takeaways from the episode on Kim’s Radical Candor framework: “What I learned is that good management boiled down to caring personally and challenging directly.... when you care personally and challenge directly that is radical candor... when you challenge but don’t show that you care that is obnoxious aggression... when you neither care or challenge that is manipulative insincerity... and if you only care but do not challenge, that is a danger zone called ruinous empathy”
In this episode, we also explored the following:
Current status quo for management and culture within organizations
Experiences that helped her shape the concepts of Radical Candor and Just Work
Why Radical Candor is counter intuitive and rare to see
How unseen bias and prejudice contribute to bad bosses and culture
The impact of trends in DEI, remote work and AI
Putting the frameworks into practice
